Squirrel in parking lot.
Just chillin' in the J.K.K. Parking Lot

Three squirrels have been found dead on the sidewalk outside of John K. King Used & Rare Books. Squirrels DO NOT die in the open like this. Animals poisoned with anticoagulant rodenticide DO. They get disoriented, they come out where they never normally would, and they bleed out.

We do not know for sure who is putting it down. We are not accusing anyone directly. We are asking every property owner, building manager, and pest control contractor within a few blocks of 901 W. Lafayette to look at what your service is actually using, and where.

Dead black squirrel lies on pavement beside a brick wall, tree, and clay pots in a narrow outdoor corner.
An innocent squirrel

If poison put out for rats is killing squirrels, it is also within reach of every dog walked down the street, every cat, and every hawk that hunts along the Lodge. There are enclosed bait stations and snap traps that do not do this. There is no version of this where the squirrels were an acceptable loss.

We do not accept collateral damage.

If you have seen a dead or strange-acting squirrel (or other animal) near W. Lafayette, please tell us, as we are keeping record. 🤬
